The 88

The 88 is an ongoing project that will consist of 88 different works with a common background and each piece measuring 8″x 8″. It is one work that will be made in 88 pieces which will be sold individually. The intention is to bring the pieces together at the end of the project and party like it’s 1988 but we’ll cross that bridge when we get there.

Why 88? 88 is a refactorable number, a primitive semiperfect number, an untouchable number and an hexadecagonal number. It also is an Erd?s–Woods number. In base 10, it is a palindromic number and a repdigit… too nerdy for you? Well, 88 is the length in mm of a standard playing card and it is considered to be a very lucky number in China and if that’s not enough it is the number that means “hugs and kisses” in ham radio. 88 is also the number of constellations in the sky recognized by the IAU. All of these things and more drive my imagination and this project. Ideas of love, life, loss, and luck permeate the work and in it’s finished state will form a seamless timeline where each piece holds it’s individual space in time while still being a part of an integrated whole. Yes, the kind of thing I like to have a beer and talk about from time to time.

This gallery will feature the pieces from this series, check back and see how it all works out…
